Goalaso!!!!!!!

Do keep the speakers turned on. A commentator's reaction to Ronaldinho's freekick against England in the 2002 Fifa World Cup match. Reminded me of Tony Creig going gaga over Sachin Tendulkar. Old one, but, absolutely delightful. Goalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaso!!!!

One armed bass wonder!

"Bill Clements is a Michigan bass player with one arm (or at least one hand). Fortunately, it's his left arm, and he's exceptionally good at playing jazz bass with it (and a bandanna tied around the neck to stop notes ringing on).

Speechless! Wish I had half the motivation he had!

Allah Rakha

"Ravi Shankar and Alla Rakha ask questions to each other in a sawal-jawab segment near the climax of a performance of Raga Bhimpalasi at the Monterey Pop Festival".

Ustad Allah Rakha, father of the tabla virtuoso Ustad Zakhir Hussain is credited for having raised the status of the tabla to that of a solo instrument.

Monterey Trivia

Monterey Pop Festival, held in 1967 was the big momma of all rock fests.

Almost all the artistes appeared and played for free except Pt. Ravi Shankar who took home $3000.

It was the first major rock act for Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

---

I had the pleasure of watching Pt. Ravi Shankar and Anoushka Shankar live when they had come to Lawrence during their US tour. Their entourage was packed with some amazing musicians both Hindustani and Carnatic and the jugalbandi was a musical treat.

Palghat Mani Iyer

A thani avarthanam by Palghat( for some reason i like Palakkadu better) Mani Iyer aka PMI regarded the best mridangam player that ever was, here accompanying Alathur Srinivasa Iyer. Worshipable talent. The violinist is Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. A rare classic. More here
